
Aim of the Course
The aim of this course is to develop the skills of academics, nurse managers, and graduate students working in the field of nursing management in designing, conducting, and evaluating randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
Participants are expected to reach a level where they can evaluate the effectiveness of nursing service planning, quality improvement practices, and management interventions using scientific methods.
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
1. Identify types of bias in experimental research and explain management strategies,
2. Plan and implement the randomization process in nursing management interventions,
3. Interpret blinding and Intention-to-Treat (ITT) analysis approaches,
4. Conduct sample size and power analysis for a management intervention,
5. Select and report appropriate statistical analyses in experimental research,
6. Prepare an experimental research protocol in accordance with the SPIRIT guidelines,
7. Conduct Risk of Bias assessments in published articles.

Session 1: Bias and its Management in Experimental Research (1 hour 15 minutes)

Session 2: Randomization and ITT Approach: (65 minutes)

Prof. Belgin Akın
received her Bachelor's degree from Ege University School of Nursing and her Master's degree from Selçuk University Institute of Health Sciences Nursing Program. In 2002, she completed her PhD in Public Health Nursing at Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences. She became an Associate Professor in Public Health Nursing in 2010 and a Professor in 2016. She worked as a faculty member at Selçuk University between 1987 and 2016. She conducted undergraduate and graduate courses and organized courses on research methods. She supervised master's and doctoral theses. She conducted BAP projects and TÜBİTAK training projects, three of which were field studies and two were doctoral theses. Her articles published in international and national journals mainly cover health inequalities, elderly health, and advocacy. She currently continues her work as a faculty member in the Nursing Department of Lokman Hekim University Faculty of Health Sciences.
Prof. Deniz Tanyer
She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Selçuk University and her doctoral studies in Public Health Nursing at Hacettepe University. She worked as a nurse in various units for five years. She received the title of Associate Professor in 2016 and Professor in 2022. She currently works as a Professor at Selçuk University. She is also the vice president of the Nursing Research and Development Association and works as an editor for the association's journal. She has numerous international and national publications. She has participated in various European Union, TÜBİTAK, and BAP projects. She teaches basic and advanced epidemiology and statistics courses at the Master's and Doctoral levels. She has also participated in numerous courses on statistics-related topics. Her main areas of interest are epidemiology and health inequalities

Aim of the Course
The aim of this course is to raise awareness of sustainability and climate change in healthcare settings and to empower nurse managers, nurses, educators, and students to develop leadership and management strategies that support environmentally responsible and sustainable nursing services.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Describe the basic concepts of sustainability and climate change in the context of healthcare institutions.
2. Analyze the roles and responsibilities of nurse leaders and managers in promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
3. Identify key leadership and management strategies that support climate-aware and sustainable nursing services.
4. Discuss ways to integrate sustainability and climate awareness into nursing management practice, education, and policy.
Prof. Sergül Duygulu
She currently works as a Professor and Head of the Department of Nursing Management at the Faculty of Nursing, Hacettepe University. She teaches courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs of the Department of Nursing Management. She continues her studies on issues related to nursing management, development of leadership in nursing, power and empowerment in nursing, development of patient safety culture in hospitals, peer mentoring and nursing education.
She is the Bologna Coordinator of our University. She is also a member of the Education and Teaching Coordination Board of our University and the Hacettepe University Quality Commission. She has been working as TÜSKA Health Accreditation Auditor since 2018. She also works as a member of TÜSKA International Accreditation Scientific Board. She is an evaluator of Turkish Higher Education Quality Council, an Accreditation Evaluator of Nursing Education Programs at the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Undergraduate Nursing Education Programs and a member of the Standards Commission of the same association and International Relations Commission. She is an international evaluator in the education accreditation processes of countries such as Romania, Latvia and Indonesia. She has been a board member and chairman of the Academic Practice Commission of the Asian and Pacific Alliance for Nursing Education, which is an international organization, since 2019, and had been president of the Asian and Pacific Alliance for Nursing Education between June 2022-2025. She has been the president of Hacettepe Nursing Undergraduate and Graduate Alumni Association since 2018. She was the editor of Hacettepe University Faculty of Nursing Journal between 2014-2024 and worked as the Faculty Erasmus Coordinator between 2011-2024.
Assist. Prof. Seher Başaran Açıl
Başaran Açıl received her master degree in Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Nursing Services Administration Program in 2011 and and her doctorate from the Hacettepe University Institute of Health Sciences Fundamentals of Nursing in 2016. In 2006, she participated as an observer in a 13-week summer program at Sotiria Hospital in Athens, Greece, as part of the Leonardo da Vinci Training Program. She also was an observer at Hannover Medical School, Germany for four months within the scope of the Erasmus Traineeship Mobility Program. Between January 2005 and June 2007, she worked at the Kırıkkale Provincial Ambulance Service Command and Control Center; between June 2007 and December 2010, at Ankara Provincial Ambulance Service Station No. 6; and between January 2011 and November 2011, at Balıkesir Atatürk State Hospital, in the Pediatric Diseases Unit, as a nurse, training nurse, and supervisor nurse. From November 2011 to February 2019, Başaran-Açıl worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Nursing Management at Hacettepe University Faculty of Nursing. Since February 2019, she has been working as an Assistant Professor in the same department. She is also pursuing a Master's degree in Health Policy, Economics, and Management (in English) at Ankara University Institute of Health Sciences.
She continues her studies on issues related to nursing management, power and empowerment in nursing, nursing education.
Dr. Emine Kuruca Özdemir
Dr. Emine Kuruca Özdemir is a faculty member and researcher in the Department of Nursing Management at Hacettepe University Faculty of Nursing. Specialized in nursing management and educational technologies, she earned her PhD in gamification in nursing education. Her current studies focus on managerial skill development in nursing, artificial intelligence, career development, and innovative pedagogical approaches. With clinical nursing and management experience in intensive care nursing throughout her career, Dr. Kuruca Özdemir holds a registered nurse (RN) license in Türkiye and the USA. She is also a national healthcare accreditation surveyor. At the international level, she has served as the General Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Nursing Education (APANE) and is currently engaged as a researcher on multiple COST actions.
